castle monsters

Photo blatantly stolen from Sharon's blog

Nate and Catie's wedding was yesterday. It all turned out dandy. Gwen was a crazy, whiner, brat all day. Drove me nuts. Do you ever have those days with your kids? Well, yesterday was one for me. I don't know what her deal was. She kept trying to take her shoes off at the temple, so I told her all about the castle monsters (since Gwen kept calling the Temple a castle...yeah, we teach the gospel in our home). Those castle monsters are mean little things. Luckily there was a little door on the temple where Gwen was throwing her fit. I told her that the castle monsters would come out of the door and drag her away if she took her shoes off. Every time she started to take her shoes off, I told her I could here the monsters knocking on the door. Unfortunately, there were a lot of other kids around from the other weddings that heard, and they started asking me about the monsters. Oops, sorry parents for giving your kids nightmares of the temple. It worked for Gwen.

Next Gwen was supposed to be a flower girl for the ring ceremony. She hated the dress and kept trying to rip it off. It looked cute, but I think it was itchy. The other flower girl was struggling with it too. They had little halo things to wear on their heads, and baskets of flower petals they were supposed to throw. Well, I was scared to death that Gwen would run down the isle screaming and whining. Naughty girl! I kept bribing her and telling her that if she was a good girl she could go sleep over at Nanny and Babos house (mis padres). It did the trick. Anytime she stared to cry or tried to rip the halo off, I told her she couldn't go with Nanny and Babo. It worked every time. Good thing. Gwen ended up doing a good job. Walked up the isle fine. Forgot to throw the petals. Remembered about the petals. Ran up to Nate and Catie and threw them all over their feet (the bishop had already started his shpeel). It was funny. She is pretty cute, when she's not being super annoying.

Anyway, 2 year olds can't handle a million pictures, itchy dresses, long days, castle monsters, hot days, the temptation of wedding candy, and mean moms. Thanks mom and dad for saving Gwen from me. All in all it was a great day. Catie looked beautiful. Her dress was awesome. The weather was good (cloud cover most of the day kept the heat down a little bit). Morgan looked quite dashing in his tux. I didn't feel sick for most of the day. I now have a sister in law on Morgan's side. Gwen is still alive. Good day.

I feel like everyone is going to weddings. I wish I knew people that were still single so I could go. Good job for Gwen. Bribes are always the key.

i don't know how we've managed to avoid wedding season this summer, but it's been pretty awesome, i think i've only had to go to 2. it seems like last summer we got an invitation in the mail every freakin' week. maybe people don't like us anymore which is fine with me. i hate buying wedding gifts. i do like wedding cake. mmmm...cake.

anywho: tell shar to call you when we have lunch. remind her to call me in the first place. unless i have a baby (i'm still trying to think positively)

Woohoo! Temple/castle monsters! I knew they existed....so that's why I never go....I'm afraid of th monsters too.
What a crazy day you had! Weddings with little ones are SO hard. Good job with the bribes. I feel like I have to do that all day every day..I have no shame....
I would have loved to see Gwen throw petals all over everyone's feet!

Missed you at the movie last night. But really, it was just okay. You didn't miss much.

that is the kind of story i will end up telling my kids when and if they are being little butts in the temple. the other day, i told this lil' girl from church to not put her hand in my baby's face cuz she bites. of course, she believed me...which made it all the more hilariously mean.
